Where to go for Help with your Casablanca

As you may know The Cassie Tips List, started by Carroll Lam back in the early days of the Casablanca Classic has closed.  This online List-serv was started and maintained by Carroll Lam.  Carroll continues to serve as one of Macrosystem Americas' resellers (dealers) - you can find all current dealers listed here

Carroll remains a dealer and the only reason the Cassie Tips List has closed is that the software that ran the service is no longer supported.  I wanted to take this opportunity to share thoughts about where you can and should go for help with your Casablanca .

I have an article below with some thoughts to help all of use find the right help we need -

whether it's tech support, how to help, or community.

For starters I beleive it is important for you to distinguish between these and what you are needing most.

  • If your hardware is not functioning properly (or at all), if your software is not working the way it has in the past I believe you are in need of Tech Support.  Now some potential support issues are related to instruction... how to do this or that.  But if something is not turning on then your best option is Tech Support
  • If you do not know how to do something, if you are trying a new piece of software, are new to a new Bogart Operating System, if you're trying to perform a tricky or new/cool effect that you have not done before (or maybe cannot remember how to do something you did once in the past) then I beleive you will benefit from How-To assistance (instruction).
  • If you're wanting camaraderie, you're wanting to connect with like-minded video producers... whether you have a question or idea about cameras, techniques, business ideas, etc then I believe you will be well served by Community.

I list several relevant options for each of these kinds of resources/services below.

 TECH SUPPORT

With the Casablanca Expert website, webinars, online classes I provide expert training and instruction on the Casablanca editor.I do not provide repair or tech-support services, I leave that to people with the proper resources. Here are two avenues I would recommend for Tech Support assistance with your Casablanca editor:

If you’re in the Americas: http://www.macrosystem.us/Support.php

If you’re outside the Americas: https://www.macromotion.info/support

NOTE: You may also find support by reading prevoius posts or posting a new question or issue in either the Casablanca Forum or the Macrosystem Support Forum (both included in the Community section below)

 INSTRUCTION (How To Help)

 COMMUNITY

In closing I have a few more thoughts...

  • You get out what you put into something

In other words, give as you receive - to benefit from quality instruction & training you should consider an investment like the annual membership at CasablancaExpert.com.  If it's Tech Support you may have to pay for that.  If you're part of a community - don't wait for other people to start a conversation start a post yourself, share a video or an article or a technique.

  • Take Personal Responsibility

If you ask someone for assistance, especially on a forum or via email, etc print out their reply or tip.  Make an effort yourself to keep track of great tips and step by step instructions (either in a binder of print outs you keep near your Casablanca or in an online folder, on your computer or Dropbox, etc).  NOTE: If you're a CasablancaExpert member - subscriber you have permanent access to these articles online - but you might bookmark (or you can print out) your favorites.

  • Gauge Your Immediacy

If you have an emergency, a client is expecting a video in two days and you’re having hardware problems - don’t just post a question on a public forum and then post a follow-up in 4 hours if no one answers.  If you have an immediate need, then take appropriate action. Sometimes a Good Samaritan will come to your aide, but maybe they’re not on their computer or mobile phone.  Maybe they are busy with their own project.  If it’s urgent contact a Support resource - or if you have a relationship, send an email or message a friend for assistance.
